Our assignment was to create something that would serve as a mood-setting page for an imaginary fashion catalogue. I used Corel Draw 5 (yes, I know. We have to use it in my university, no Illustrator allowed) and the work of some of my favorite artists and also one I didn’t know, whose beautiful picture I found right here on tumblr!
The picture of the 3 women (the one I serendipitously discovered on my timeline and served as the inspiration and very first step for the whole work) is by Pierre Molinier, the drawing I stretched sideways and used as my background is by Louise Bourgeois (one of my favorite artists, whose work I’ve been lucky enough to see live twice), and the lillies are by Man Ray.
I found the two portraits with their faces cut off on tumblr and haven’t been able to track them back to the artist yet.
And the poem is by Dorothy Parker. The title is Thought for a Sunshiny Morning and it can be found in her collection of poems entitled “Sunset Gun” and also in the wonderful (and not all that easily portable) “The Portable Dorothy Parker”
